Our Commitment to Safety: District Security Protocols

The Albia CSD is dedicated to providing a safe, secure, and supportive learning environment for all students and staff. Our safety strategy involves comprehensive training, established protocols, and regular practice drills.

Standard Response Protocol (SRP)

Our district has adopted the nationally recognized Standard Response Protocol (SRP), developed by the "I Love U Guys" Foundation.

The SRP uses clear, consistent language and actions to guide students and staff during various safety-related incidents. This ensures a unified and immediate response across all district buildings. All staff members are trained on this protocol, and students receive age-appropriate instruction throughout the school year.

Training and Drills

We conduct regular training and drills to ensure everyone knows their role in an emergency. All training is designed to be calm, supportive, and age-appropriate to inform students without causing fear.

  • Staff Training: All district personnel participate in ongoing professional development and training on the SRP and other emergency response procedures.

  • Student Training: Students receive training throughout the year as appropriate to their grade level.

  • Active Intruder Training: All staff and students in grades 7-12 receive Run-Hide-Fight training, which focuses on individual response options in the unlikely event of an active intruder.

  • Safety Drills: Each school building conducts scheduled drills throughout the year to practice all five SRP actions.

Community Partnership

Safety is a shared responsibility. We value our partnership with families and the community in keeping our schools secure.

If you have any questions about our safety protocols or scheduled drills, please contact your child’s school principal directly.
